Jems Robert Koko Bi Documentary and Photo Story:

The above documentary was completed during my employment at California State University, Bakersfield. The documentary was filmed and edited by myself and the music was composed by CSUB music instructor Jim Scully. The photos in the slideshow are part of a photo story I completed as part of this multimedia project.

I discovered photojournalism for myself at CSUB. I remember signing up for the photojournalism class thinking it would be a fun and easy class; a breeze.

At the time I didn’t know what photojournalism really was and this class completely altered the course of my journey in photography. I knew I enjoyed taking candid photos more than anything else, but it was learning about elements in a photograph to help tell a story, that ultimately made me fall in love with the genre.

On the second day of class I signed up to be a staff photographer for the campus newspaper and the rest is history. I completed three quarters as a member of the photography staff for The Runner, two of which I  was the photo editor, and it was a great experience.
